We are pleased to introduce an important update to the Atomic Aquatics SplitFin line—the addition of the High Energy Compound (HEC) material with our trusted Stainless Steel Spring Strap.
Proven in the Smoke on Water Fins
The HEC material, currently in our Smoke on Water SplitFins, has become a diver favorite for its powerful, lively response. We are now bringing that same advanced compound to additional Atomic Aquatics SplitFins colorways, giving divers a new level of energy, rebound, and thrust in a fin design they already know and love.
Open heel fins come in a variety of shapes, sizes and stiffness levels, all of which play a major role in overall comfort and performance. A fin with short, soft blades will kick more easily than a longer, stiffer one, but it will require more kicks to travel the same distance. A blade that is too stiff demands excessive effort and can quickly lead to fatigue.
The Atomic Aquatics Open Heel Fins were specifically designed to optimise all of these variables. They are easy-kicking fins that deliver high thrust, speed and efficiency, all while maintaining a comfortable, low-frequency kick cycle.
The Benefits of HEC:
Greater Propulsion Power – More snap and drive from each kick
Reduced Fatigue – High rebound efficiency lowers the effort needed
Responsive Performance – A noticeably quicker, livelier feel in the water
Paired with the proven Stainless Steel Spring Strap system, the HEC SplitFin is one of the most comfortable, durable, and performance-driven fins available. The addition of the Spring Strap also ensures the fin remains slightly buoyant in both fresh and salt water—delivering convenience without ever compromising performance.

How Atomic Aquatics Open Heel Fins Work. Split-Blade Wing Design Slices Through the Water.
Traditional paddle fins generate propulsion by pushing water rearward. As the blade moves through the water, a significant amount spills over the top surface and clings to it, creating drag and requiring additional effort to overcome.
Atomic Aquatics Open Heel Fins use two wing-shaped blade surfaces that slice through the water, generating lift and forward propulsion similar to a propeller. Water flowing over the blade is channelled through the central opening between the wings, reducing drag, lowering effort and increasing overall efficiency.

Propeller-Fin™ Technology Moves You Faster.
Atomic Aquatics Open Heel Fins incorporate Propeller-Fin™ Technology to deliver high speeds using a compact, rapid flutter kick. This functions in much the same way as increasing RPM on a boat propeller, producing faster forward motion without requiring large, energy-draining movements.
Distinct Atomic Features.
Atomic’s signature use of advanced materials is central to the performance of its Open Heel Fins. Flexible side rails, a stiff foot pocket and reinforced blade battens work together to control flex patterns for optimal thrust and stability. The patented EZ-LOK buckle system adds convenience, durability and reliability, features divers consistently value.
How to Swim With Atomic Aquatics Open Heel Fins.
The ease of kicking may feel surprising at first, but this is by design. You are likely moving just as fast, or faster, than with traditional fins, even though the effort feels reduced.
While these fins work across multiple kick styles, optimal performance is achieved with a smaller-range, more frequent flutter kick. This technique keeps your legs within your body’s slipstream, reducing drag and allowing you to move efficiently through the water. Less drag means greater speed, less effort and improved air consumption.
